Building the firm of the future: how a firm turned deal sourcing into an always-on engine

A growth equity firm launched in 2024 set out to originate deals around the clock, and without building an army of analysts. This is how they did it.

Most firms still source deals the way they did a decade ago: static lists, manual research, and outreach driven by gut feel, with no data layer underneath it. When this APAC-based PE firm launched in 2024, its founders decided there had to be a better way.

The conventional playbook for a growth equity firm is to hire. "Traditionally, firms built large teams of junior analysts to cold-call hundreds of companies," says the firm's Director. "But that wouldn't work for us. It would take too long and cost too much. We want to be the firm of the future."

The firm wanted a more intelligent way to build pipeline; the ability to originate deals 24/7 without adding headcount, freeing the team for what AI can't do: building relationships and debating deals. It also needed an early-warning system, to flag when a promising-but-not-yet-actionable company hit a growth inflection, so a partner could get in front of them before the market.

A platform built on proprietary context

The project was scoped around three objectives: smarter pipeline generation, continuous market and CRM monitoring, and a single source of truth. Early on, those goals are being achieved - outreach emails are working well, the platform's company recommendations are consistently strong, and now the platform integrates directly with the tools the team uses: Granola, SharePoint, email, and calendar.

It starts with screening. The platform evaluates every company against the firm's thesis - the right sectors, stages, and geographies. AI agents run continuously, surfacing candidates to an action queue, while the team screens on demand using Claude. Every target that reaches a partner has already cleared the bar. Their Director told us, ‘That's not just efficiency, it's confidence in the pipeline’.

When a company clears that screen, the platform drafts the first outreach: not a generic template, but a message grounded in what the company is doing - built with the data sources and context in their deal engine from sources such as Traxyn, LinkedIn and their own CRM intelligence, why it fits the mandate, and the right reason to engage now. The team reviews, refines, and sends.

Their deal engine also monitors the CRM continuously, surfacing the moments that matter, such as a company reaching a new stage, a contact unspoken to in six months, a passed deal worth revisiting. In a business where timing is as decisive as the relationship, nothing falls through the cracks.

Underneath it all sits a unified memory layer drawn from the firm's own knowledge: email, SharePoint, the CRM, deal memos. The platform isn't running on generic data every competitor can buy, it learns from the firm's context and gets sharper the more it's used. The result is a compounding asset, not a static tool.

The difference so far

The platform now surfaces 10+ qualified opportunities every week, more than 500 a year - each with a one-page company snapshot ready for review. That's the equivalent of a dedicated sourcing team, running continuously, without the overhead.

"Our platform is fast becoming a force multiplier," says the Director. "We can see more of the market, we're better prepared for every conversation, and we're approaching the right people at the right time, with the right reason to engage."

What's next

For the Firm, this is the beginning. The next step, working with Deal Engine, is an operational layer built on Claude, extending the platform beyond sourcing intelligence into the execution of the workflow itself, supported by a growing library of bespoke skills that target new efficiencies across the deal sourcing process.

The payoff is leverage. As more of the workflow runs autonomously, the team reclaims time from process and reinvests it where judgement matters most: building relationships and sharpening conviction on deals.

Each new skill deepens the firm's proprietary edge - a sourcing engine that sees more of the market and acts on it faster than rivals relying on the same off-the-shelf tools.

For a firm built to stay lean, that is how a small team covers the ground of a far larger one, and how an early-mover advantage keeps widening with every deal.
